A you might have noticed, i have changed the look of the site a bit. The background pattern and menu bullets are courtesy of Travis Beckham over at squidfingers.com.
This is a “temporary new” design until I finally get around to finishing the “real new” new design….or something like that. Anyway, enjoy.

I met with Lewis Kemper and Pat Livingston today to discuss selling their photos on the Village RV website. After our meeting I began to wonder how one goes about assigning a value to a photograph. Of course there are the associated production costs. However, above that what give a photo some extra intrinsic value.
Certainly, the general population has seen millions of images in their lifetime. The shear number available must diminish their value greatly. I personally contibute to Istockphoto, an online royalty free stock photography source. For each image a user downloads, I get $.20. Lewis Kemper charges $200 for an 11×14 print and doesn’t seem to be starving.
Granted Mr. Kemper is a much better photographer than I am and has been doing it for many more years. Still, I wonder what makes a photograph worth more than $.20. Thicker paper…crisper ink…the frame?

Well, I’m back from a week long vacation in spectacular Kauai! My sister, Melody’s wedding was GREAT! Kauai is an amazing place! The north shore is so lush and the water so blue I was very sad to pack up the bags and head for home. I definitely plan to return as soon as I can! I post some pictures in the next day or so.
Back to work today…hard to with island on the brain…*sigh*.

Ian Hixie has posted a variation on the Flash Satay Method for adding flash content without the use of <embed>. Seems to work quite well in Internet Explorer 5+, Netscape 6+, Mozilla1.5+, Opera and Firefox. I do suggest replacing the failure text in Ian’s example with an image.
In other news, I came across an interesting article about Google’s server horsepower. Mind boggling!

The worst insurance company ever has proved once again just how crappy they are. Allison recently came down with a case of strep throat. On her first trip the doctor informed her that she definitely did not have strep throat and was probably suffering from allergies. Although Allison insisted that she did not have allergies, the doctor said, “You do now! Buy all of these allergy medications.”
A day later, a nurse calls and informs us that, yes, Allison does have strep throat and would she please come pickup her perscription for Penicillin. You know, that ancient antibiotic that nobody perscribes anymore….because it has side effects like death and anaphylactic shock.
After two days taking the antibiotic, Allison had an allergic reaction. She spent all of Wednesday and most of Thursday immobile and vomitting. After 10 minutes pushing numbers on the phone in order to navigate through the menus, the advice nurse said, “Sound like a typical case of penicillin allergy…not much to do except wait for the level of penicillin in your body to go down. We’ll perscribe another antibiotic.”
Lovely…another perscription to buy. That’s three bottles of useless, unneeded medication, one of which made Allison sicker than she’s ever been! Healthcare? I don’t think so!
Please explain to me how it makes sense to allow an insurance company be the provider of healthcare? It doesn’t. An insurance companies bottom line does not mesh with the needs of patients who often require expensive treatments or, at the very least, a little more time and attention.
Allison is feeling better now. Her fever has gone and the strep throat is leaving. Thanks docs…bang up job!
