When “Healthcare” Hurts
The worst insurance company ever has proved once again just how crappy they are. Allison recently came down with a case of strep throat. On her first trip the doctor informed her that she definitely did not have strep throat and was probably suffering from allergies. Although Allison insisted that she did not have allergies, the doctor said, “You do now! Buy all of these allergy medications.”
A day later, a nurse calls and informs us that, yes, Allison does have strep throat and would she please come pickup her perscription for Penicillin. You know, that ancient antibiotic that nobody perscribes anymore….because it has side effects like death and anaphylactic shock.
After two days taking the antibiotic, Allison had an allergic reaction. She spent all of Wednesday and most of Thursday immobile and vomitting. After 10 minutes pushing numbers on the phone in order to navigate through the menus, the advice nurse said, “Sound like a typical case of penicillin allergy…not much to do except wait for the level of penicillin in your body to go down. We’ll perscribe another antibiotic.”
Lovely…another perscription to buy. That’s three bottles of useless, unneeded medication, one of which made Allison sicker than she’s ever been! Healthcare? I don’t think so!
Please explain to me how it makes sense to allow an insurance company be the provider of healthcare? It doesn’t. An insurance companies bottom line does not mesh with the needs of patients who often require expensive treatments or, at the very least, a little more time and attention.
Allison is feeling better now. Her fever has gone and the strep throat is leaving. Thanks docs…bang up job!
