The Fray
Let me preface this to say that today has been a crazy day and I’ve had a bit to drink.
With that said let me address the comments that I’ve recieved today. First off, let me thank Molly for her understanding of what my response was to Paul’s post on ‘Independent thoughts.’ I wrote what I felt from Pauls post and I don’t retract a thing. My responses where direct reactions from the reading of his post. If I misunterstood the point I must appologize. I must admit that a majority of responders agreed with Paul although I can’t understand why. However, Mike Rundle’s comment that I misspelled a word and my site is ugly could certainly affect my attitude somewhat. (although his CSS rule of font: bold 38px/44px “Trebuchet MS”, “Verdana”, sans-serif; certainly helped to negate his “ugly” judgement)
Nevertheless, Mike has a right to his opinion. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” after all. I welcome his comment regardless of its level of constuctive criticism. That’s what this damn blog is all about. If Mike wants to write that I smell and come from bad lineage, that is his right. I have opened this forum to the public. I am requesting public comment. I believe that the web is a perfect forum for freedom of speech. If I somehow become part of the “A-List” and Joe Poser wants to post “You’re the greatest. Let me kiss your ass.” despite never meeting me…so be it. That is thier perogative. It is a positive comment. It probably reflects their admiration for what I’ve done for the community and their motivation to pursue embetterment in the web design world. I will never decide that their opinion/voice is somehow not worthy/worthless/sheeplike.
Now, that is the last I will ever say on that topic.

Could it be that Mike is a bit too “anal?” Enjoy the beauty of what we are doing in life. Imperfection is all a beautiful part of it, and shows our humanity. Calling things ulgy just shows a certain insecurity in himself.

Did you notice, “ulgy,” instead of “ugly?” BEAUTIFUL–FULLY HUMAN–”anal” perfection is what I call ugly.

Well said!

I thought I would be civil about this whole topic, but after reading your nonsense you have come to piss me off and I have no idea why. Maybe it’s the fact that you still haven’t “read” the entry quite right yet. Maybe it’s the fact that you don’t frequent my site and understand that people leave nice short little comments ALL THE TIME and I always give my appreciation. Maybe it’s the fact that I mention time and time again that I don’t give a flying fuck about any A-List because the only reason one exists is because readers like to bring it up and not the actual people who might be in it.
I am glad to see you are open minded about letting absolutely any type of comment on your site, because I know that if I worked hard to create an enjoyable environment for myself I be damned if someone just came along and started to tell me how much I smell for no reason at all.
Thanks god I haven’t had anything to drink or this comment would be a tad bit different. Again, I don’t care about your opinions and I don’t care what you say on my site or not really, but when you write this kind of stuff that makes me out as some pompous asshole who doesn’t do anything for the community then I gotta stand up. Maybe if you actually knew me you would see things differently or maybe if you actually reread the entry then you would understand (along with the comments), but seeing how this is the last you will say about this topic, it will be the last I say about it.
I congratulate you on being the first person to ever have me come over and leave a “nasty” comment. Back to my happy place now.
Haha, now that I look at your blogroll obviously you don’t read those sites at all because you will find most of those people being a lot more harsher than I am in regards to comments on their site. Many of them just delete what they don’t like. Again, my arrogance overwhelms me. Forgive me.

Well Scrivs, I think that comment beckons a reply.
In fact I did read your entire entry ( including comments). In fact, I do frequent your site. However, I had never posted a comment until yesterday. Also, I do read every single blog on my blogroll…every day. (considering there are new posts)
I think that there is a big difference between turning comments off or deleteing out ones they don’t approve of and the message you presented yesterday. Perhaps I don’t get it because I haven’t had to deal with the issues you speak of.
I never said you don’t do anything for the community. I didn’t try to make you out to be a pompous asshole (although from your own admission your “assholism” does come out in your posts). I read the comments on Molly’s site about the new book. I saw (for the most part) simple positive, supportive comments. You saw sheep. It’s a diffence of opinion. If you don’t care about mine, why are you pissed?

Since somehow this post has been linked in the latest blogosphere Scrivs storm, I’d like to point out a spelling error:
