Speaking Of Monkeys

November 12th, 2004 No Comments »

I know this is ancient, but still…excited, fat, bald, white millionaire men…nothing is scarier. With this crack junkie as the CEO it is no wonder Microsoft products are full of bugs.

P.S. Don’t forget the remix.

“I ain’t no monkey…”

My old hometown was in the news today…Cobb County!

I really don’t get people’s hangup with evolution. It’s apparent that we have evolved a great deal since even the 1800’s (people are much taller/larger, which is an evolution). It’s also ironic, how many times, when speaking with people in the south, I’ve heard evolution evoked to justify hunting or eating BBQ. “Survival of the fittest!” However, somehow when it’s in a textbook it is the work of Satan.

One of my favorite stories (told to me by my brother-in-law) recounts how during a college biology course’s covering the topic of evolution and enraged student suddenly shouted out. “I ain’t no monkey!” The suprised professor explained that indeed he was extremely biologically similar to a chimpanze. Further discussion revealed that the student believed that fossils had been scattered around the world by the devil in order to confuse and mislead humans.

How can you argue with that?

Firefox 1.0…Optimized

November 9th, 2004 No Comments »

In case you have just crawled out of a cave and immediately hopped on a computer and this is the first site you’ve come across…let me be the first to tell you Firefox 1.0 has been released today! If the previous scenario doesn’t apply to you, then you probably are fully aware that Firefox was released today. What you might not be aware of is that there are optimised builds for your specific processor (be it intel, athlon or powerpc) available at MOOX.ws. These builds offer better performance vs. the standard distribution. However, they don’t come with an installer so you will have to extract them and copy all the files to your Firefox directory if you are upgrading from a previous version.

House Update

Well, things with the house are really speeding along. (Finally!) This past weekend I finished off the kitchen tile as well as the tile in the master bathroom. I also got the master bathroom painted and replaced the freaky flourescent light fixture with something a little nicer.

That leaves painting the guest bedroom and the master bedroom and laying the laminate flooring. I’ve been told that the laminate will not be quite the chore that tiling is. I really hope so too, because laying tile is really a freaking pain! By the time you are done with it your more disgusted than pleased to see your new floor. Especially when you have just finished grouting the tile and are in the process of scrubbing off grout haze and the dust in the room leads you to putting a box fan up in the window to vent some of that dust and upon leaving the room the box fan, blown back by its own force, tumbles out of the kitchen window and onto the newly completed tile, cracking the hell out of one of the tiles in the very middle of the room. Yes, after something like that, the tile floor is more of a scar on your psyche than anything else.

My advice…stay away from laying ceramic tile. In the future, I certainly will.

MMM…Crab!

This past Saturday was the first day of Crab season here is California. I am fortunate to know Dave Mitchell, fisherman extraordinaire. He returned Saturday night from Bodega Bay with his limit of 10 HUGE crabs and proceeded to feed Allison and I with the sweetest, freshest crab I have ever tasted! Bread, salad, and champagne rounded out the feast. Amazing. Thanks again Dave and Karen!

The best part is that crab season continues for a few months. We are already planning a trip involving my job perk of borrowing an RV and camping on the coast to go crabbing. YAY! Can’t wait!
